Sturgeon River Damage Brings $175,000 Order
Two companies and a site supervisor have been convicted following illegal shoreline construction on the Sturgeon River in West Nipissing.
Work at a Quesnel Road property in 2023 extended approximately 300 feet of shoreline into the river and included an unauthorized rock boat launch.
The construction damaged protected habitat used by endangered Lake Sturgeon.
The West Nipissing Company Inc., Deep Construction 2018 Inc. and Timothy Zaba were fined a combined $65,000 and ordered to pay $175,000 toward sturgeon recovery.
The payments will go to the Anishinabek/Ontario Fisheries Resource Centre. The property owner must also seek permission to remove the unauthorized structures.
