INDIVIDUAL CHARGED WITH FAILING TO COMPLY WITH RELEASE ORDER

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – A West Nipissing resident is facing criminal charges after a court-ordered GPS monitoring device was damaged.

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance on Pike Lake Road in West Nipissing.

Upon arrival, the individual had left the area on foot. During the investigation, officers located a damaged GPS monitoring device that had been separated from the individual and rendered inoperable. Police determined this was contrary to conditions contained within a judicial release order.

Additional resources, including members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit, were deployed to assist in locating the individual.

The individual was later located in a wooded area and taken into custody. Following arrest, the accused was transported to hospital for medical assessment and subsequently released into police custody.

As a result of the investigation, Paul Philion, 44 years old, of Sturgeon Falls, has been charged with:

·        Mischief under $5000

·        Failure to comply with release order

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 2, 2026.
