(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged a young person after a request was made for police to assist a family.

On June 3, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m. members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence to assist in keeping the peace at a family dispute, on Alain Street, West Nipissing.

It was reported earlier that day, a young person, assaulted and utter a threat to another family member and then attempted to harm the family pet.

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old-person, from that residence, was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Uttering threats – damage or injure animal
  • Killing or injuring animals

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay in July 2024.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
