Police Charge 2 Youths With Auto Theft

(ST. CHARLES, ON) – Police arrested and charged two young people after a report of a stolen vehicle.

On March 8, 2024, shortly after 10:30 p.m. members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised by Greater Sudbury Police Service, of a theft of a passenger vehicle from the City of Greater Sudbury.

In the early morning hours of March 9, 2024, police located the vehicle parked on the shoulder of Highway 535, St. Charles.

As a result of the investigation, two young people were arrested.

A 15-year-old-person, from Hanmer, was charged with, theft under $5000- of a motor vehicle, possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with undertaking.

A 16-year-old-person, from St. Charles, was charged with, theft Over $5,000 of a motor vehicle and possession property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in April 2024, in Sudbury.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
