Driver Faces Charges After School Bus Smash-Up


(MARKSTAY-WARREN, ON) – Police charged the driver of a motor vehicle after a collision with a school bus

On March 21, 2024, shortly before 8:00 a.m., members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a school bus at the intersection of Pioneer Street and Highway 17, Markstay-Warren.

No injuries had been reported, with both the students on the school bus and the other driver.

As a resulted of the investigation the driver of the motor vehicle, a 46-year-old person, from Markstay-Warren, was found to be a suspended driver and was charged with, follow too closely and driving while under suspension.

The OPP would like to remind motorist when following a school bus, remember to keep a safe distance. Buses make frequent stops, so maintaining a safe distance ensures you are prepared to stop safely:

Be Alert: Watch for those flashing lights and extended stop signs. When a school bus stops, you stop too!
Be Patience: Children may take a bit longer getting on and off the bus. Stay patient and give them the time they need.
Obey the Law: Passing a stopped school bus is not just dangerous, it is against the law.
