ONE PERSON DECEASED AFTER A COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 144

(UNORGANIZED TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person is deceased after a collision between a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

On February 14, 2024, shortly before 2:30 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Cartier Fire Department and Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services responded to a collision on Highway 144, Unorganized Township, south of the town of Cartier.

The driver of the SUV, a 55-year-old-person, from Cartier was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the CMV was transported to the local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 144 was closed in both directions for under 14 hours during the investigation, removal and clean up of the vehicles.

OPP Collision Reconstructionist and members of the Traffic Collision Investigation Team attended the scene and will continue to assist Nipissing West OPP officers with the investigation, as it is still ongoing.
