Nourish to Flourish: West Nipissing Rallies for October 4th Food Drive

In a renewed effort to combat food insecurity, Franco-Cité Catholic Secondary School in Sturgeon Falls is spearheading a community-wide food drive on October 4th. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., volunteers will canvas neighborhoods across West Nipissing, collecting non-perishable food items for the West Nipissing Food Bank.

Residents are encouraged to place bags or boxes of food in visible locations outside their homes for collection on the designated day. For those who prefer a more direct approach, students will also be going door-to-door to gather donations.

If you’re unable to participate in the door-to-door collection, the school welcomes drop-offs during regular hours at its location at 90 Main Street, Sturgeon Falls. Additionally, the West Nipissing Food Bank is accepting e-transfers for this specific drive. Donors can send contributions to using the password “patriotes.”

As for what to donate, the food bank has a broad acceptance policy, welcoming all non-perishable items. However, certain foods are in higher demand. Pasta, sauces, and large cans of soup top the list, along with child-friendly snacks and canned pasta varieties. The drive also accepts essential non-food items such as toilet paper, paper towels, and toiletries.

The initiative marks another chapter in Franco-Cité Catholic Secondary School’s ongoing commitment to community service, aiming to fill the larders of local families as the Thanksgiving season approaches. With the collective effort of the West Nipissing community, the drive aims to make a significant impact in alleviating local food scarcity.
