West Nipissing Pride Unveils Inaugural Parade, Celebrating Diversity and Unity in June

West Nipissing Pride is organizing Sturgeon Falls’ inaugural Pride Parade on June 10. The event begins at 1 p.m., lasting approximately half an hour, and people are invited to meet at the Collège Boréal Parking Lot at noon. The local council, including Mayor Kathleen Thorne-Rochon, has expressed support for the event, with a proclamation of June as Pride Month set for a June 1 ceremony at Minnehaha Bay. The community is encouraged to wear Pride-inspired colors every Friday of June. Businesses and organizations are invited to submit parade floats by May 30, with ten floats confirmed so far. West Nipissing Pride, established in 2020, is proud to organize this parade. Its president, Michel Gervais, highlights the importance of such events in providing visibility and positive representation for the LGBTQ2S+ community, especially for queer youth in need of support.
