Help Needed: West Nipissing Resident Hosts GoFundMe Campaign for Cat’s Hip Replacement Surgery

Jennifer Rivet, a West Nipissing resident, is hosting a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her cat Luca’s hip replacement surgery. The 17-month-old Maine Coon cat has had a rough time recently, with a fractured hip, another fracture requiring surgery, and the tragic passing of his original owner. Rivet, a veterinary technician, stepped in to care for Luca when a family member struggled to find a suitable home for him due to his health issues. Rivet says, “I’m trying to do my best, but financially, I can’t do it alone.” The costly procedure is estimated at $5,000 per hip, and Luca may require both hips to be replaced. Rivet believes Luca’s second injury resulted from the strain on his side caused by the initial injury. Although Luca is resting comfortably, the specialized surgery is beyond Rivet’s financial means, prompting her to seek help through the fundraiser.
