ALERT! – COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in West Nipissing

WEST NIPISSING, ON – The West Nipissing Emergency Control Group urges residents to take safety measures seriously, as positive COVID-19 cases are confirmed in West Nipissing.

Businesses, employers and individuals should remain very cautious and follow protocols to protect themselves and others. It is every individual’s responsibility to respect public health guidelines such as: limiting travel outside your home to essential trips only; physical distancing; wearing a face covering; washing or sanitizing hands often; and coughing or sneezing into your sleeve.

West Nipissing and Northeastern Ontario are not immune to a quick and unfavorable spread as seen in other areas of the province. North Bay Parry Sound District has recently seen a significant increase and is currently at 29 active cases, with 19 being in the Nipissing area. Active cases in surrounding districts include: 46 in Sudbury; 14 in Timiskaming; and 44 in Algoma. Northeastern Ontario has a total of 140 active cases. The provincial total is currently at 3,519.

Contact tracing is an extremely important component of the prevention strategy. Anyone testing positive for COVID-19 should do their best to provide as much information to public health professionals in an effort to inform other residents who may have been exposed.

Residents can report COVID-19 restriction violations to enforcement authorities such as NBPSD Health Inspectors, Municipal By-law Enforcement and Ontario Provincial Police.
