(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – On September 26, 2020 at 10:55 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious person on the property of a business located on Highway 17, just west of Sturgeon Falls, in the Municipality of West Nipissing.
Officers attended the scene, located and arrested the individual for trespassing.
Investigation revealed the accused had damaged a vehicle and was in possession of stolen property.
Further investigation revealed police had investigated a theft from a vehicle at the same location the day prior and confirmed some of the recovered property was in fact the items reported stolen.
As a result of the investigation, Jason GARNIER, age 43, of Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 (three counts), contrary to section 355(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC; and
Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on November 5, 2020 in Sturgeon Falls
