ONE PERSON CHARGED AS A RESULT OF A STABBING

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – On September 25, 2020 at 8:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault incident which had occurred the previous night, in the Municipality of West Nipissing (Sturgeon Falls).

Investigation revealed at approximately 10:30 p.m. on September 24, 2020, while walking on King Street in Sturgeon Falls, the victim and another individual approached two people, one of whom was an acquaintance of theirs. Their conversation became heated and confrontational and subsequently resulted with one person being stabbed by the unknown person. The victim, who suffered a stab wound to the upper body, was treated and released from hospital.

With the assistance of members from the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, the accused was arrested on the afternoon of September 25, 2020.

As a result of the investigation, Lucas MCCANN, age 20, from Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:

Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on November 5, 2020 in Sturgeon Falls.
