WEST NIPISSING RESIDENT CHARGED AFTER CUTTING DOWN TREES

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – On July 24, 2020 at 8:10 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a person cutting down public trees on the corner of Queen Street and Main Street in West Nipissing (Sturgeon Falls).

Investigation revealed the person cut down two large trees, on the Municipality’s property, and left them covering the boulevard on Queen Street.

Upon arrival at scene, officers observed the accused walking away and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Jacques MAYER, age 42, from Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:

Mischief Under $5000 (2 counts), contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 1, 2020 in Sturgeon Falls.
