On January 9, 2020, members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that an individual had pointed a firearm at someone and threatened to kill that person while at a residence in Sturgeon Falls.
On January 13, 2020, the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of members from the Northeast Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Northeast Region Support Team (NRST) and the OPP Canine (K9) Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Sturgeon Falls.
Officers seized a quantity of drugs, suspected to be Methamphetamine (speed), along with some long guns and ammunition.
As a result of the investigation, Ronald WATSON, age 49, from Sturgeon Falls, was arrested and is charged with:
Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
Careless Use of a Firearm, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC;
Pointing a Firearm, contrary to section 87 of the CC;
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, contrary to 91(1) of the CC; and
Uttering Threats – Cause Death, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC.
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sturgeon Falls on March 5, 2020.
