OPP INVESTIGATE IMPORTATION OF PROHIBITED FIREARM SUPRESSORS

(STURGEON FALLS, ON) – On October 17, 2019 agents from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) contacted the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reporting they had intercepted a package, containing a sound suppressor for a firearm, destined for a resident on Quesnel Road in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario.

On November 5, 2019, officers from the Sudbury OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the Northeast Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a search warrant at the residence.

As a result of their investigation, officers arrested William FETTERLY, age 53, from Sturgeon Falls and seized two prohibited devices (firearm suppressors) and six firearms. He is charged with:

Importing a Prohibited Device (2 counts), contrary to section 103(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on December 5, 2019 in North Bay.
