WNPS Report – 3 year old found wandering streets.

On April 25th – The West Nipissing Police received a report of a break and enter at a building owned by OVR (Ottawa Valley Railway) in Sturgeon Falls. The investigation is ongoing.

On April 27th – The West Nipissing Police was dispatched to an address in Sturgeon Falls regarding a child welfare matter. A three year old child was wandering the streets alone with no coat and no shoes and was located by strangers whom called the police. The child was in good health and was returned to the mother without incident. The Children’s Aid Society was notified of the incident.

On April 28th – The West Nipissing Police received a report of a break and enter and theft at a residence in Lavigne. The culprit(s) entered the residence and took numerous items including prescribed medication, video games, a bicycle and money. The investigation is ongoing.

On April 28th – The West Nipissing Police were dispatched to an address in Sturgeon Falls in relation to an injured male that had been drinking and had been cut. Upon further investigation police learnt that two males were arguing in a residence. The argument escalated and became physical when a knife was pulled and one of the males got cut. The victim was transported to the hospital for serious injuries to his arm. The other adult male was arrested and charged for assault with a weapon. The investigation is ongoing.

On the 30th of April – The West Nipissing Police were dispatched to a local restaurant in Sturgeon Falls in regards to a male that was exhibiting suspicious behavior. Police learnt that the male had openly consumed drugs while in the restaurant. The male had been recently released on a Recognizance of Bail with the condition of respecting a curfew and to not consume drugs. The male was arrested shortly after for breaching his curfew. The male resisted arrest. Search incident to arrest, police located methamphetamine and oxycodone. 42 year old Jean Claude Philippe was therefore charged with:
– Four counts of Failing to Comply with Recognizance
– Resist arrest
– Three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance

On the 30th of April – The West Nipissing Police attended the hospital in regards to a male that had sustained injuries to the head. Police conducted their investigation and learnt that the victim was attacked from behind with a metal pipe by a male known to the victim. The male assaulted the victim by striking him to the head with the metal pipe. The male suspect then left on foot. The investigation is ongoing.
