The former commander of the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police detachment has been named the detachment commander of the new Nipissing West OPP detachment.
Insp. Michael Maville has commanded the Sault Ste. Marie detachment since May, 2016.
The OPP is taking over policing of West Nipissing at noon June 6.
Maville began his career with the OPP in January 2002, and was posted to the Superior East (Chapleau) detachment. In October 2006, Maville transferred to the East Algoma (Thessalon) OPP detachment where he became a detective constable.
He joined the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (North Bay Drug Enforcement Unit) in 2008.
In July 2012, Maville was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to the North Bay Provincial Communications Centre.
In May 2016, Inspector Maville was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant and appointed as the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment commander.
