On March 1st, 2019, West Nipissing Police received an assault complaint from a female, claiming that her common-law spouse had assaulted her. Police investigated and learned that the couple had an argument earlier in the day. The argument got physical and the female was grabbed and pinned down on the bed. She eventually left the apartment and sought help. A 45 year old male has been charged with assault and forcible confinement.
During the afternoon of March 2nd, 2019, police received a complaint of an erratic driver who might be impaired. With the assistance of the complainants, police located the subject vehicle at a local restaurant parking lot. The officer spoke to the driver and detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. When the driver was asked to exit the vehicle, he fled the area. The officer attempted to follow the vehicle, however the subject vehicle reached excessive speeds on the highway and the officer decided not to pursue. The subject vehicle was eventually located on Jocko Point Rd, where police again confronted the driver. The male identified as Joey Botelo 27yrs old, of Hunstville was uncooperative with police. He refused to provide a breath sample and resisted arrest. Botelo was taken into custody and police learned that the truck that he was driving was stolen from the London area. Botelo is charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Dangerous Driving, Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample, Flight from Police, Resist Arrest, Assaulting a Police Officer and Failing to Comply with Conditions of his Recognizance. He was kept for bail.
On March 3rd, 2019, West Nipissing Police were contacted by the Canadian Tire Store advising that they had questioned a shoplifter inside the store. The male fled the area, however, store staff were able to guide police to his location. The male was arrested and approximately $74.00 of merchandise was recovered from him. Further property in the male’s possession had been stolen from a vehicle parked at the Dollarama parking lot. Calvin Tietz 22yrs old, has been charged with 2 counts of Theft Under and 2 counts of Possession of Stolen Property. He was held for bail.
