The West Nipissing Police Service would like to remind the public to be cautious around area waterways as we enter the Spring months. Ice can become unpredictable and dangerous as the warmer conditions causes melting and rising water flows. The ice thickness can be deceiving and may not be uniform from one area to the next. Everyone is asked to exercise caution around waterways and maintain close supervision of children and pets.

Police would also like to remind motorists about the road closures at this time of the year. The municipality may designate roads closed for various reasons, including road conditions and weight restrictions. It is unlawful to drive onto any closed road or highway under section 134(3) of the Highway Traffic Act. Anyone caught in contravention of this section could face a fine of $110 with three demerit points.

If anyone has any information about this incident or any other crime, please communicate with the West Nipissing Police Service at 705-753-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
