Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appoints Marc Serré as Parliamentary Secretary to the Rural Economic Development Minister

NICKEL BELT-GREATER SUDBURY – Marc Serré, MP for Nickel Belt, is honored to have been entrusted and appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as Parliamentary Secretary to the Rural Economic Development Minister the Honorable Bernadette Jordan.

In his new role as Parliamentary Secretary Serré will support Minister Jordan in her ministerial duties. He will act and speak on her behalf when needed and will ultimately be an integral link between rural communities and Parliament.

Since being elected in 2015 Serré has been a strong advocate for rural communities, voicing the unique challenges faced by the residents of Nickel Belt and all Northern Ontario. Initially, Marc was elected by his Northern Ontario colleagues as chair of the Northern Ontario Liberal caucus. In April 2017 he was selected by his peers for the position of National Liberal Rural caucus chair. This experience will add great value as he takes on his new duties.

With collaboration and his wealth of experience, Serré will support Minister Jordan’s mandate to develop a whole-of-government rural economic development strategy to diversify and strengthen rural economies and create more opportunities for rural Canadians. Her mandate calls for collaborative efforts of several Ministries and regional development agencies that will lead to the rollout of rural infrastructure investments, work to increase high-speed broadband coverage, develop affordable housing, increase access to early learning and childcare and the successful delivery of Service Canada programs. These efforts will create an economic climate that can attract, retain and grow small businesses in rural regions.
