On January 18 2019, police responded to a complaint of a Break-Enter and theft at a Lafreniere Road property near Lavigne. Upon speaking with the victim of the theft police learned that unknown culprits attended the property, forced open a number of out buildings and stole a number of items. Thieves made off with some tools, gas cans and what is most concerning 2 firearms, a 410 and a .22 calibre. The property owner has been to the property on a regular basis and the offence is believed to have occurred between January 15 and 18. The investigation is ongoing.
On January 19, while on general patrol on Cache Bay road, police observed a vehicle with unauthorized plates attached to it. The officer attempted a traffic stop; however, the suspect vehicle fled from police. The vehicle came to a stop a short distance away and the driver was taken into custody. Upon searching the driver and the vehicle, police discovered a small amount suspected “crack cocaine”. The driver, 30 year old Yves Lachapelle now faces charges of Fail to comply with an undertaking, flight from police, possession of controlled substance, drive while under suspension, operate motor vehicle no insurance and use plates unauthorized for vehicle.
Police are investigating a complaint of counterfeit money after a resident came forward advising he had received two $50.00 bills in exchange for smaller denomination bills. The suspect provided the victim with an excuse as to why he needed smaller bills so the complainant provided the suspect with Canadian $20 and $10 bills, in exchange for the two $50.00. When examined closely the victim discovered some anomalies and reported the incident to police. The matter is under investigation.
