National Rural Caucus

NICKEL BELT – MP Marc Serré was selected as Chair of the National Rural Liberal Caucus on Parliament Hill and is honoured to have earned the unanimous confidence of his peers. Serré looks forward to advocating on behalf of the many residents of rural Canada to ensure their voices are heard in Ottawa. This is a natural progression for Serré, having served as Chair of the Northern Ontario Liberal Caucus.

“I am honoured and grateful for this opportunity and I would like to thank my colleagues for entrusting me with this position. I am dedicated to lead the team and continue to work toward fostering more opportunities for the creation of rural economic development. It’s a privilege to be part of this Caucus and I’m committed and eager to take on my new responsibilities,” said Serré.

An election for two National Liberal Rural Caucus Vice-Chair positions likewise took place last night, and MPs Bernadette Jordan (South Shore-St. Margaret’s) and Richard Hébert (Lac-Saint-Jean) were nominated by their peers for these positions. MP David Graham (Laurentides—Labelle) was acclaimed as Caucus Treasurer.

As National Liberal Rural Caucus Chair, MP Serré role is to advise the Prime Minister and his office on issues of concern or high importance, to consult with Ministers and report back to the National Liberal Caucus on rural issues.

Improving access to high-speed broadband and increased infrastructure funding for rural communities continue to be critical priorities for the National Liberal Rural Caucus. These are files that Mr. Serré is well versed in and eager to work hard towards advocating for with support from his Caucus colleagues.

In addition to his new appointment, Serré continues his roles as a Member of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, and as a Member of the Northern Ontario Liberal Caucus, the Liberal Indigenous Caucus, and the all-party ALS and Outdoor Caucuses as well.

Having gained a great deal of experience in his caucus and committee workings, MP Serré is well suited for this new position and will support growth and change by being a strong voice for rural Canadians in Ottawa . As Caucus Chair, Serré’s goal is to work with the National Liberal Rural Caucus team to create a more sustainable place for all rural Canadians to work and live in, and for children to grow and play in.
