CANADIAN TIRE AND POLICE PARTNERS FOR YOUTH

Canadian Tire and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police have partnered up in supporting youth through the Jumpstart program. Locally, the Jumpstart program has been in place since 2005, and has helped 891 local youths with more than $117,000. The need is growing fast as the program continues to grow within the community and the demand has begun to exceed the supply.

In 2015, just under $15,000 went out to the kids and in 2016, more than $23,000. To assist with the program, the West Nipissing Police Services Board has donated $500 to a fundraising event that will take place during the Parade of Lights. Alongside the Canadian Tire float, volunteers will not only be handing out candy but will also be collecting donations for Jumpstart. The first $2000 raised within the community will be matched by the local store, then once again matched by Canadian Tire corporately, making it an instant $8,000.

To get things started, the Police Services Board has put its $500 into the pot from its community contingency account which are the proceeds from the police auction, and are earmarked to benefit the community.
