Between June 2nd and June 8th the West Nipissing Police Service logged 210 calls for service. Among those were 3 Assault complaints, 1 Domestic Disturbance call, 5 Mischief complaints, 9 Neighbor disputes, 2 controlled drugs and substance call, 4 sexual assault complaint, 3 Harassment complaints, 2 Impaired driving calls, 30 police assistance calls, and 4 theft complaints.
On June 2nd police received a complaint from a female advising she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. Police investigated the complaint and learned that the transient couple was travelling through West Nipissing when the woman needed some hospitalization. Her male companion became frustrated and angry about their circumstance and it is alleged that he forcibly threw the victim to the ground and further that he struck her in the facial area. A 31 year old male of no fixed address has been charged with assault, and breach of recognizance.
On June 2nd, police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver. A description of the vehicle was provided to police and moments later a uniform member of the West Nipissing Police Service located the vehicle. While speaking with the vehicle driver the officer learned that the man had consumed alcoholic beverages recently. The individual later refused to provide suitable samples of his breath to be analyzed. The 61 year old Florida resident now faces charges of failing to provide breath samples.
On June 3rd police were called regarding an assault at a Park Street residence in Sturgeon Falls. Upon arrival police learned that a female had been assaulted by her brother. It is alleged that the man was being abusive with a family pet; when the woman attempted to intervene she was struck on the head. The man is also alleged to have threatened to kill the woman. A 21 year old Sturgeon Falls man now faces charges of assault, uttering threats and cruelty to animals.
On June 3rd the West Nipissing Police Service conducted a traffic stop on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls and arrested two men for possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance. Officers seized a substantial amount of cash and 150 pills of suspected oxycodone. A 37 year old Brampton man and a 51 year old Kitchener man now face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance.
On June 3rd, the West Nipissing Police service received a complaint from a Main Street resident advising she required police assistance. Police attended the residence and learned that the woman’s ex-boyfriend had returned to her residence while having conditions not to. He had previously been released with conditions not to communicate with her or attend her residence. The man is alleged to have attended the residence on more than one occasion and further it is alleged that he utter threats to cause the woman and police bodily harm. The investigation is ongoing.
On June 5th the West Nipissing Police Service received a complaint that a youth had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her. Police investigated that complaint and have charged a 45 year old North Bay man with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference and sexual exploitation in connection with incidents that occurred in the West Nipissing area.
On June 5th the West Nipissing and the Children’s Aid Society investigated a complaint of a sexual assault that is alleged to have taken place in May of this year. Police learned that a young female had attended at a cottage in the Crystal Falls area with a man that she knew, while there she was touched inappropriately by the man. A 35 year old Corbeil man now faces charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
On June 6th the West Nipissing Police Service received a complaint of a possible impaired driver. Officers responded to the Cache Bay area where they learned that the complainant’s vehicle was almost struck by a van. The investigating officer spoke with the driver of the van discovered that the man had recently consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and taken into custody. He later provided samples of his breath which confirmed the presence of alcohol in his blood. A 37 year old Cache Bay resident now faces a charge of impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
On June 7th police received a complaint from a young woman indicating that she was being touched inappropriately by her ex-boyfriend. Police investigated the complaint and a 17 year old youth faces a charge of sexual assault.
On June 8th the West Nipissing Police Service received two separate theft complaints from local grocery stores. Officers were advised that two men have been in the outlets and have made off with various meat products without paying. Police are investigating the complaints and are currently looking for the men.
