West Nipissing Police Service weekly update (January 14 – January 20)

Between January 14th and January 20th, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 149 calls for service. Among those were 3 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 27 police assistance calls, 3 thefts, 8 unwanted persons complaints, and 2 domestic dispute and 2 mischief complaints

On Jan 15th 2017 West Nipissing Police Service received a call for assistance at a Hwy 539 residence. The complainant advised that he had been assaulted by a male that had just entered his house without permission. Investigation revealed that the complainant heard some barking outside, and noticed a large dog attacking his dog that was tied up at the time. The complainant yelled at dog but it did not stop, he therefore entered his residence and secured his .22 Cal rifle.

The dog left the property and the complainant followed with the intention of speaking to the owner. The complainant spoke to a female and told her that her dog had just attacked his dog. Within 15 minutes a male attended and entered the complainant’s home without permission and grabbed him by the neck. The suspect was pushed out of the home but refused to leave the premises. The complainant’s girlfriend told the suspect to leave at which time he threatened to shoot them when they drive by his home. Police have arrested and charged one man with assault, unlawfully being in a dwelling and uttering threats.

On January 16th officers responded to a complaint of a theft of gas at a local gas station in Sturgeon Falls. Officers were advised that a male individual pumped in excess of $80 of gas into his vehicle then drove away without paying. Police were provided with a description of the driver and the vehicle. The suspect in question was later apprehended out of town, he now faces charges of theft.

On January 16th police responded to a complaint of mischief at a local downtown business. The owner informed police that a female walked by the business and threw a piece of ice at the front window causing the window to break. Police investigated the incident and were able to identify the woman. A 48 year old Sturgeon Falls woman now faces a charge of mischief.

On January 17 2017at 18:34, West Nipissing Police Service responded to a complaint of assault. Officers attended a local restaurant and learned that the victim finished work, and then he and his brother attended at a restaurant for a beer. As the victim was seated at the bar with his brother, West Nipissing Police Service Service Policier De Nipissing Ouest 225 rue Holditch Street P. O. The woman grabbed the glass of beer, poured it over the victim’s head, and then smashed the glass against the back of victim’s head. The female has been arrested and faces a charge of Assault with a weapon.

The West Nipissing Police Service is investigating mischief to a motor vehicle in the Salter street area sometime during the early morning hours of January 19th . Police learned that the complainant observed damage to his vehicle as he prepared to leave his home in the morning before attending work. Sometime overnight the culprit scratched the side of the vehicle and slashed two tires. The damage to the vehicle is in excess of $3000, and police are actively investigating the complaint

On January 19th a Sabourin Road resident contacted the police to report that her vehicle had been entered and that the culprit had stolen some change and a suitcase. The complainant advised police that the many school documents and personal papers were contained within the suitcase. Police continue their search for the red carry on size suitcase with telescopic handle and 4 wheels.
