Mitch Gagnon spoke with MMAjunkie about his return from injury and more. Some highlights are below:
On the timeframe for his return: “I just started to get back in the swing of things, and I plan on being back in there by the end of the year.”
On tearing his ACL at UFC Fight Night 58: “I didn’t even know about it until three weeks after. I had some discomfort in my knee, but I was still able to move a little bit.”
On suffering a miniscus tear afterward: “The recovery was going well, and I had a little setback. I tore the meniscus while I was doing the rehab, so they had to go in there and clean it up. So I kind of postponed my rehab a little bit, as well. But now all is good. My knee is strong. I’ve been back training, and I want to get back into the swing of things, training and getting in shape.”
On the long layoff: “It’s super frustrating. I’m not going to lie. I feel like right now I’m in my prime.”
On coming back from the injury and loss: “Out of all my losses, I’ve always come back as a way better version of myself. When you’re on a winning streak, you don’t look at your flaws because you’re winning. But as soon as you get a loss, you kind of reassess and see what you can do better. It’s been a while, so I want to not focus on a fight and just get back time on the mats, get back my reaction time and hopefully I get a fight around September or October. … I’m just looking for a fight.”
