A word about “page hits”:
Of note, while the number of actual visitors to the site and number of page views have increased steadily over the past 9 months, because of site optimization we’ve implemented to reduce load times and increase site responsiveness – reducing the amount of scripts and images being called when a visitor loads any of our pages – our “hit count” has been steadily decreasing at a much steeper rate. This is a GOOD thing. The less hits a page load produces means less lag from the point of view of a visitor to the site.
We’ve always maintained that “Page HITS” are a useless metric which only measure, if anything, poor website design and optimization. When we first launched WNO and as you can see from the graph below, we we’re generating huge amounts of hits. This is due to the fact that as early as January, we were adding several important chunks of code, scripts, to make the site more functional…once the code was implemented and tested, however, we got down to the business of optimizing it to a point that we’ve managed to reduce our Hits by more than half while growing our ACTUAL visitors by over 3,000 in the same 3 month span.
