Marc Serré, MP for Nickel attended the PDAC 2016 International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange

NICKEL BELT – Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt officially opened the FedNor-funded Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS) pavilion during the 2016 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention.

In July 2015, FedNor announced a contribution of $380,000 to enable the City of Temiskaming Shores to establish the second annual NOMS pavilion. As Chair of the Northern Ontario Liberal Caucus and member of The National Standing Committee on Natural Resources, Mr. Serré was pleased to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.

Mr. Serré expressed during his opening remarks: “Northern Ontario Mining Showcase is providing 72 organizations from our region’s mining supply and services sectors with an opportunity to highlight their products and services to a global audience, while exploring new markets and establishing key contacts.” Mr. Serré is proud of the federal government’s commitment in supporting strategic initiatives, such as the FedNor-funded NOMS, to help increase exports and create high-quality jobs in key sectors of the economy including mining and mineral exploration.

Mr. Serré also participated in a Sector Stakeholder Roundtable alongside Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources (MNR) and Mrs. Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary, MNR. Members of industry, Indigenous leaders, and non-governmental representatives participated in the discussion to explore the challenges and opportunities that the mining prospectors and development sector are facing. Mr. Serré is looking forward to working with stakeholders to reinforce Canada’s position as international leader in the mining sector.
