Louise Charron, a native of Sturgeon Falls and the first Franco-Ontarian to be named to the Supreme Court has announced that she is retiring. After a long and distinguished career as an assistant Crown Attorney in Ottawa, District Court Judge and nearly 10 years for the Ontario Court of Appeals, she was named to the Supreme Court in 2004, at the age of 53. Now 60, Charron could have stayed on until she was 75, the mandatory retirement age for Supreme Court justices, but she needed time to recharge and retirement was the best option for everyone.
