West Nipissing…where are you?

When we first launched WestNipissingOuest.com in August of this year, we had a vision of creating an online community hub where people, from all walks, could share, collaborate, vent, discuss, learn, debate, and every other action verb one would associate with a vibrant and active online community. We built the site with custom scripts that would allow anyone from West Nipissing to quickly and easily contribute news, events, tips, photos, articles, editorials, columns and everything in between.

For too long, we’ve had no public forum or central online presence where our voices could be heard. Traditional media can’t, and never has, filled that need. The operative word being “need”. How can community exist when it’s heart is complacent and it’s members live out their  lives in relative isolation?

Driving down our streets, walking the sidewalks or store aisles, I don’t recognize half of the people I see. “Who is that?”, I ask. “What does he or she do?”. “What’s their story?”. When someone sets up a new business, it can be months before I find out. And what about all you volunteers, artists, musicians, hobbyists, writers, home based business people? I know you’re out there…but where?

Perhaps I’m naive, but I believe everyone has a story. Everyone has a particular skill or expertise. Everyone has an opinion. So why aren’t we sharing? Has it dawned on you that you’re not alone? That others, such as myself, might be interested to learn about you? Do you work in the financial sector and have some tips to share? Construction? Retail? Do you have a big family reunion coming up? Are you an artist, writer or musician looking to share some of your work?

Well? What are you waiting for? We’re here West Nipissing! Where are you?
